Beton ist das meistgenutzte Baumaterial auf unserem Planten. Die Herstellung erzeugt 8% der globalen CO2 Emissionen. Wir Menschen verwenden Beton, um unsere Bedürfnisse in Sachen Behausung, Infrastruktur und Wachstum zu befriedigen. Was aber, wenn es umgekehrt das Material wäre, das uns ausbeutet? Dieser Frage gehen die KünstlerInnen Kasia Fudakowski und Philipp Modersohn in ihrer filmischen Kollaboration Convicting Concrete nach. Darin wird mit Hilfe von Animations- und Foto-Essay-Techniken von einem imaginären Gerichtsprozess erzählt, in dem Beton des Ökozids angeklagt ist und neben anderen Materialien, die als Zeugen fungieren, erstmals überhaupt als juristische Person in Erscheinung tritt. //
Concrete is the most used building material on our planet and its production accounts for 8% of global CO2 emissions. We humans use it to satisfy our needs for shelter, infrastructure and growth. But what if concrete is, in fact, exploiting us? This is the question the artists Kasia Fudakowski and Philipp Modersohn investigate in their filmic collaboration Convicting Concrete. Using animation and photo essay techniques, the film narrates an imaginary court case in which the material itself is on trial. Concrete is accused of ecocide. As a consequence of the trial, however, concrete as well as other ubiquitous materials, are finally given legal standing, and therefore a legal voice.

Über die Filmemacher:
Die Co-Autoren von Convicting Concrete, Kasia Fudakowski und Philipp Modersohn, sind beide bildende KünstlerInnen, die ein besonderes Interesse an der Verwendung von Materialien sowie an den Rechten der Natur und den aktuellen juristischen Befugnissen zu dessen Schutz teilen. Im Jahr 2018 gründeten sie die IIIAA (International Interdisciplinary Initiative Amateur Academy), durch welche sie alternative Wissensnetzwerke erforschten. Seit dem haben sie an mehreren Projekten zusammen gearbeitet. Während dies ihre erste filmische Zusammenarbeit ist, haben sie individuell bereits mehrere Kurzfilme produziert. //
About the film makers:
Convicting Concrete co-creators Kasia Fudakowski and Philipp Modersohn are both visual artists who share a keen interest in the uses and abuses of materials as well as the rights of nature and the current judicial powers to protect them. They have worked together on a number of projects since 2018 when they founded the IIIAA (International Interdisciplinary Initiative Amateur Academy) which saw their common interests in alternative knowledge sharing networks, combine. While this is their first filmic collaboration, individually they have made multiple short films.
